This study highlights the limited awareness and use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) more injections among knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients compared to commonly known treatments like corticosteroids (CS) and hyaluronic acid (HA). In particular, the survey revealed that while 93% of participants had heard of CS injections, only 6.5% were aware of PRP injections, and just 2% were actually offered this treatment. This stark contrast emphasizes the lack of familiarity and availability of PRP as an option for knee OA management, despite its potential benefits. The results point to a significant gap in patient knowledge about treatment alternatives, especially biologics like PRP, which are still relatively new and not universally recommended due to variability in results and lack of standardization. The study suggests a need for greater education and clearer clinical guidelines to improve patient and physician understanding of all treatment options, particularly ortho biologics such as PRP. To summarize, while corticosteroids and hyaluronic acid remain the most recognized and offered treatments, there is a notable gap in both knowledge and application of PRP for knee OA, which calls for further research, education, and standardization to help patients make informed decisions about their care.
