Title

Experimental validation of a Novel Switched-Capacitors Based Multilevel Boost Inverter for Three-Phase Applications with Single DC Source

Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a new three phase boost multilevel inverter using a single dc source. The proposed structure is basically based on the concept of “Marx converter” which steps up the voltage by switching the capacitors in series and in parallel thus eradicating the need of an additional boost converter or output transformer. This accounts for small size, light weight and higher efficiency. Universal control scheme for multilevel inverters is applied for control and operation of the proposed inverter. Provision for capacitor ripple voltage reduction and a zero level control to achieve the same are also discussed. The output shows reduced harmonic content as compared to the conventional three phase voltage source inverter. The practical amplitude of the output voltage is close to the theoretical value.
