The study investigates the antimitotic properties of Cyperus rotundus seeds, known for containing flavonoids and phenolic compounds with potential antimitotic effects. Seed extracts were prepared using solvents of varying polarity (Ethanol, Chloroform, Acetone, Aqueous, and Hydroalcoholic), and their phytochemical composition was assessed. Hydroalcoholic extract was found to contain the highest concentration of flavonoids, tannins, carbohydrates, steroids, and glycosides. The antimitotic activity was evaluated using the Allium cepa root assay, where extracts at 10 mg/ml were compared to methotrexate (0.1 mg/ml). Hydroalcoholic extract exhibited the most significant reduction in the mitotic index (28.42%), indicating its potential as an antimitotic agent.
