Title

Text to Screen: Examining the Fidelity and Innovation in Book-to-Movie Adaptations

Abstract

Book-to-movie adaptations have long been a cornerstone of the cinematic industry, offering filmmakers the opportunity to translate beloved literary works into visual narratives. This article explores the dual imperatives of fidelity to the source material and the creative innovations that make adaptations unique. Drawing on examples such as The Lord of the Rings, The Kite Runner, and The Great Gatsby, the study examines how filmmakers balance the original text's themes, characters, and settings with the demands of the cinematic medium.

Key Words

What constitutes fidelity in adaptation? How do directors and screenwriters reinterpret narratives for contemporary audiences or visual storytelling constraints? The article also discusses the role of omission, compression, and addition in shaping the transition from text to screen, with a focus on how these decisions impact audience reception.
