Title

Germination Efficacy of Vigna Radiata in Fresh and Traditionally Dried Herbal Infusions

Abstract

An herbal tea is a light, flavourful drink made by steeping a small amount of herbs in hot water for a short period of time. In contrast, an herbal infusion is made using a larger amount of herbs, which are left to steep for longer periods of time. This creates a stronger flavoured beverage with more potent properties from the herbs used in its preparation. Indian tea culture is strong; the drink is the most popular hot beverage in the country. It is very common that different herbal parts are combined with tea and alone with different colours and flavours are used as welcome drinks in functions. This new era is totally disturbed with the emergence of new pandemic and several health problems. Such issues affect the quality of life and health of every person. The food products and beverages available in the market contain lots of chemicals and other products which is harmful for health. In that condition herbal tea is a best suggestion for modern world. It contains both colour and taste along with various health benefits. It acts as both medicine and preventive method for various ranges of diseases. Also it boosts the immune capacity. It is natural and has least side effect. Totally herbal tea is a complete package for modern society. In the present investigation, in vitro growth response of Vigna radiata was compared in herbal infusions made from fresh, sun dried and shade dried leaves and flowers of commonly used medicinally important six plants Ocimum sanctum, Mentha spicata, Camellia sinensis, Clitoria ternatea, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis and Rosa damascene. Along with this phytochemical analysis for phenols, terpanoids, flavonoids and saponins in the selected herbal infusions was also conducted.
