Title

Sustainable 3D Concrete Printing: A Review of Recent Advances

Abstract

3D concrete printing (3DCP) is an emerging construction technology that has the potential to revolutionize the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. By enabling the automated, layer-by-layer deposition of concrete, 3DCP facilitates the construction of complex, customized structures with reduced material waste, faster project timelines, and greater design flexibility compared to conventional methods. This paper explores the latest advancements in 3DCP systems, materials, and methodologies, emphasizing their transformative impact on modern construction practices. Key factors influencing the 3DCP process, such as equipment parameters, concrete rheology, and reinforcement techniques are critically analyzed. Additionally, the study investigates the integration of sustainable practices, such as the use of waste materials as supplementary cementitious materials and recycled aggregates, to enhance the environmental performance of 3D-printed concrete. The findings reveal that while waste materials improve rheology and sustainability, excessive incorporation may compromise early strength and structural performance. Furthermore, challenges such as anisotropy in flexural properties and the need for standardized material formulations are highlighted. The paper concludes with insights into optimizing 3DCP processes to achieve cost-effective, scalable, and environmentally sustainable construction solutions.
