Title

Impact of Nano urea and Nano Zinc on nutrient uptake and Economics of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract

A study titled "Impact of Nano Urea and Nano Zinc on Nutrient Uptake and Economics of Rice (Oryza sativa L.)" was conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture, Rabindranath Tagore University, Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 growing seasons. The experimental field's soil was slightly alkaline, with a pH of 8.2 and 8.1, and an electrical conductivity (EC) of 0.46 and 0.45 dS/m, indicating moderate salinity. Organic carbon content was low at 0.54% and 0.52%, and the soil fertility was characterized by low levels of available nitrogen (298.56 and 318.27 kg/ha), slightly low available phosphorus (35.62 and 33.49 kg/ha), and low available potassium (183.78 and 226.12 kg/ha). The field experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. The application of 75% nitrogen along with two foliar sprays of nano urea and nano zinc at 25-30 days after transplanting (DAT) and 45-50 DAT significantly enhanced growth, yield, quality, and economic returns. Uptake of micronutrients in the crop varied significantly due to the treatment effects. Uptake of micronutrient by the rice grain was found statistically higher with the application of 75% N and two foliar sprays of nano nitrogen and nano zinc at 25 to 30 and 45 to 50 DAT (T13: 12.68 g ha-1) followed by the application of 75% N and two foliar sprays of nano nitrogen at 25 to 30 and 45 to 50 DAT (T6: 12.10 g ha-1) as well as net returns (Rs. 60,899/ha), and benefit-cost (B:C) ratio (1.96). Additionally, significantly higher microbial populations and soil enzymatic activity were observed with the soil application of nano urea and nano zinc at 25-30 and 45-50 DAT, as well as with the application of 100% nitrogen at 30 DAT and at the flowering stage.
