Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is a system that powers multiple bank accounts to a single mobile application (of any particular bank), merging several banking features, real time, seamless fund routing and merchant payments into one hood. This user friendly solution is now one of most preferred digital payment solutions in India. This paper attempts to find out the reasons for the popularity of UPI and its impact on the society. Secondary sources and secondary data are used for this purpose. It was found that UPI is popular due to the penetration of mobile phones and internet facilities, government initiatives and the unique features of UPI. UPI is a unified system that can automate and standardise India’s payment platforms. It was concluded that UPI is contributing in increasing the growth of digital payment of India, making the society, a less-cash society, more secure and popular solution that is helping in financial inclusion and economic development of the country.
