Building materials contribute to a considerable share of the overall cost of any construction project (Kasim, N.B., 2011, pp.31-36). Mismanagement of materials impacts the scope, schedule, budget, and, quality of the construction project. To overcome the problems faced, the use and implementation of ICT tools have been largely explored and adapted in developed countries (Mustapa, F.D., et al, 2012, pp.342-346). Despite the popularity of ICT tools, developing countries are far behind in adopting them in construction projects (Kasim, N.B. and Ern, P.A.S., 2010, pp.1-10). At present, the application of ICT in the construction industry concerning the management of materials, the elements that drive the use, and the barriers that restrict the credence of ICT tools have been identified and listed based on a literature study. The paper concludes with a note on the requirement to establish the implementation of ICT to overcome problems faced during material management by addressing the barriers present.
