The temple inscriptions are essential epigraphic sources for understanding the political, cultural, and religious dynamics of ancient and medieval societies. As primary sources, they provide critical information on architectural development and cultural continuity, making them indispensable for reconstructing history. This paper explores the temple inscriptions commissioned during the reign of Siva Singha, a significant Ahom ruler of medieval period, Assam, India. These inscriptions provide rich insights into the socio-economic, political, cultural, and religious landscape of the period. While these inscriptions document royal donations, land grants, and temple patronage, they also served as powerful tools for political legitimacy, reinforcing the ruler’s divine authority. Through a comparative framework, the paper emphasizes the value of temple inscriptions as reliable epigraphic sources for reconstructing history and understanding the dynamics between state power and religious institutions.
