India is the residence to 705 tribal communities, which is 8.6% of the total population according to the Census of India 2011. Dongria Kondh is an indigenous tribe inhabiting Odisha’s Niyamgiri hills. It is designated as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group by the Government of India. Dongria Kondh is famous for its unique weaving and cultural practices. This article delves into the socio-cultural practices of Dongria Kondh and how they have persisted and evolved in the face of globalisation. Through an ethnographic method, this study examines the significance of various cultural practices, illuminating their role in preserving community identity. This study attempts to document the traditional festivals, ethnomedicinal practices, and their weaving practices as an intersection of art, culture, and environment. Using participant observations, unstructured interviews, focused group discussions, and surveys, the study makes a humble effort to understand the community-led initiatives for culture preservation. This is an honest attempt to record their socio-cultural practices and transition.
