Title

Autonomous goods transport: A comprehensive review of stair-climbing robot technologies

Abstract

Autonomous goods transport has become a critical area of research, particularly with the increasing demand for efficient delivery systems in complex environments. Among the challenges faced by autonomous robots is the ability to navigate multi-level terrains, including stairs. This literature review presents a comprehensive analysis of stair-climbing robot technologies, focusing on their design, mechanisms, control strategies, and applications in goods transport. The review highlights key advancements in stair-climbing robots, such as the development of specialized actuators, sensors, and artificial intelligence algorithms that enable smooth and efficient movement across staircases. Various approaches to enhancing stability, energy efficiency, and load capacity are discussed, alongside emerging trends in the integration of stair-climbing capabilities into logistics and e-commerce systems. The paper also addresses the challenges and limitations that remain, such as the need for real-time adaptability to diverse environments, the optimization of power consumption, and the improvement of operational safety. The review concludes by identifying potential future research directions, including the development of more versatile, scalable, and cost-effective solutions for autonomous stair-climbing robots in the context of goods transport.
