Title

Meera, the Face of a Being: Portrayed Through a Few Narrative Threads

Abstract

Meera Mukherjee is not a very popular artist. Though in her early days, she explored the world and underwent several experimental phases, her affinity to the indigenous crafts always grounded her in the present reality of daily life. Trained in Calcutta, Delhi and Germany, she discarded many temptations of stylistics and career options and chose a lifelong project of experimentation and exploration.. This essay is written on the occasion of the birth centenary of the sculptor Meera Mukherjee and is an overall assessment of her life and works.
