parental expectations can have a strong effect on student’s motivation and self-expectations. while healthy and realistic expectations can encourage student’s success, unrealistically high expectations can set students up for failure. such unrealistic expectations can also lead to anxiety and discouragement when a students cannot live up to her or his parent’s goals. likewise, low expectations can make it difficult for students to see and achieve their full potential. Objective to assess the level of parental expectations among nursing students in the selected nursing college.to assess the level of stress among nursing students in the selected nursing college.to find out the correlation between parental expectations and stress among nursing students studying in selected nursing college.to find out the association between parental expectations with their selected socio- demographic of variable.hypothesis H1: - there is a correlation between parental expectations and stress among nursing students.H2: - there is a significant association between parent’s expectations and level of stress with their selected socio-demographic variable.method a quantitative research approach was adopted for the study among basic b.sc nursing 1st and 3rd semester students. the research adopted descriptive design and sample were collected 60 students by using simple random sampling technique. and they underwent a series of questions to assess the parental expectation and level of stress among nursing students. a self-structured questionnaire was made to assess the parental expectation and assess the level of stress by using likert’s scale.results it was observed that the perceived parental expectations were high among the nursing students studying in selected nursing college of Patna, Bihar. it was observed that there was extremely level of stress among the students. a moderately positive correlation was observed between the perceived parental expectations and level of stress among students studying in selected nursing college of patna, bihar. it is observed that there is a significant association of perceived parental expectations with father’s educational qualification, x2=21.413, df=12, p=0.045<0.05. it was seen that there is a significant association of perceived parental expectations with parenting style, as x2=25.052, df=6, p=0.000<0.05. there was no significant association between level of stress among students with age, sex, religion, type of family, student’s educational status, student’s previous year academic performance,father’seducational qualification, mother’s educational qualification, father’s occupation, mother’s occupation and monthly family income.conclusion the findings of the present study are consistent with the study conducted by saurabh kumar et al12, where they found significant relationship between parental expectations and academic stress but not in case of academic achievements. the results showed that a positive correlation existed between parental expectations and levels of stress.the present study result revealed that majority of the nursing students have perceived extremely parental expectations and majority have perceived extremely stress. positive correlation found between perceived parental expectations and perceived stress among nursing students so the counselling of the students and their parents is very much essential to relieve the stress among students.
