Title

''Re-Evaluating the Author's Role: The Intentional Fallacy and the Return of the Repressed''

Abstract

The multiplicity of arguments made by proposed theories on which of the four gradations of literature (author, context, text, or reader) should be given priority when it comes to critical interpretation is one feature that has defined the ongoing development of literary theories. Scholars that adhere to theoretical schools have authored a great deal of criticism essays in an effort to exalt one coordinate above the author. Nevertheless, it is asserted that the majority of these critics' texts, despite their criticisms, are found to have experienced what Sigmund Freud called "the Return of the Repressed"—a situation in which the exiled elements (grids) make a surprise appearance at the wrong time to cast doubt on the texts' central claims. In keeping with this, this essay evaluates how far "the intentional Fallancy" by W.K. Wimssat and M.C. Beardsely avoids "the return of the repressed" by formulating a novel idea of an autonomous "text" devoid of any sort of authorial determination. This paper untended , the essay managed to prevent the resurgence of the suppressed by regaining the importance of the "text" and acknowledging the author's intention, albeit with evidence that the text's intrinsic meaning is more significant than the author's intention.
