Title

STUDIES AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CARBON BASED SOLID SUPPORT

Abstract

The study aimed to prepare and characterize carbon-based solid supports derived from tamarind seed powder (TSP) biomass. The preparation involved carbonization at 500°C for 30 minutes in a muffle furnace for synthesis of Tamarind seed powder carbon(TSPC), followed by chemical activation using sodium hypochlorite and sulfuric acid. The resulting carbon-based solid supports were utilized to develop solid acid catalysts (SAC), magnetic solid catalysts (MSC), and fluorescent carbon nanoparticles (FCNPs), which were applied in transesterification reactions and azo-dye synthesis. The prepared materials were characterized using various techniques. BET analysis determined the surface area, pore volume, and pore diameter for TSPC, SAC, and MSC, with values ranging from 20.242 to 22.64 m²/g, 0.017 cc/g, and 1.692 to 2.940 nm, respectively. FESEM revealed porous structures and diverse morphologies, while TEM showed FCNPs particle sizes between 10 and 50 nm. XRD confirmed the crystallinity, and FTIR identified essential functional groups in TSP, TSPC, SAC, and MSC. Additional tests included adsorption studies, acid density (0.86 mmol/g for SAC), and catalyst reusability. The catalysts demonstrated promising performance in catalytic applications, with efficient results in the targeted organic reactions. The study highlights the potential of waste-derived carbon-based materials for developing versatile catalysts, promoting sustainable resource utilization and innovative applications in industrial field and many other such wide application such as bio imaging etc.
