Title

The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and its impact on mental health among service professionals at Chennai City

Abstract

This research paper explores the intricate relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and mental health, particularly within the context of service professionals. EI encompasses competencies that allow individuals to perceive, understand, regulate, and effectively utilize emotions in themselves and others. The study highlights how EI contributes to various positive outcomes such as resilience, motivation, empathy, and effective communication, all of which are essential for maintaining mental health. It emphasizes the World Health Organization's definition of mental health as more than just the absence of mental disorders, incorporating aspects of emotional, psychological, and social well-being. The investigation includes key components of both EI and mental health, such as self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and social skills. A comprehensive literature review supports the significance of EI in enhancing mental health, with findings indicating that higher EI correlates with improved emotional regulation and resilience against stress. Statistical analyses reveal a complex interplay between EI and mental health variables, suggesting that while EI does exert an influence on mental health, this relationship may be nuanced and affected by individual perceptions. Ultimately, the study calls for further exploration into how EI can be leveraged to promote better mental health outcomes and highlights the importance of understanding one’s emotional landscape to navigate professional and personal challenges effectively.
