Ayurveda encompasses a comprehensive understanding of various diseases and their treatment approaches. Here in this article, we are discussing properties, description and therapeutic uses of one of the drugs, Chopachini, which is scientifically known as Smilax glabra of family Liliaceae. It is a herb mentioned in Ayurveda for its medicinal properties. It is predominantly found in China especially for its therapeutic action on wide range of diseases like Syphilis, Skin disease etc. It has bitter taste and dry in nature and bears Tridoshashamak property. Rhizome is the part used for the medicine preparation. A special preparation made from its tuber is used in gonorrhoea and associated arthritic symptoms, fever and general debility. It is mild laxative so people may experience diarrhea after its consumption.
