Title

Ecofeminism, Sustainable Development and Education

Authors

Abstract

ABSTRACT Ecofeminism as a term is coinage by Françoise d' Eaubonne in 1974. It is an environmental, social movement, a philosophy and a political theory that draws parallels between the domination of women and other marginalized groups and the degradation of nature. It advocates for more ecologically sustainable economic and social forms. Ecofeminism as a movement explores the link between the oppression of nature and women, advocating for peace and non-violence. It integrates women's lives with ecology and environment, recognizing their unique knowledge and experiences in environmental preservation. Women are the first to recognize the degradation of nature. They also suffer from extreme weather events like cyclones, floods, or famine due to climate change. They are also providers of food at home. They collect fuel and water from far-off places for the family. The ecofeminist perspective, which combines elements of ecology and feminism, has gained less attention in international policy discussions. It emphasizes the connection between women's oppression and environmental damage, challenging conventional approaches and encouraging policymakers to consider women's perspectives in environmental policy-making. Involving women in sustainable development policies is crucial, as they are often more vulnerable to climate change impacts and possess essential knowledge and skills related to subsistence economy. Education has the potential to incorporate ecofeminism in the curriculum, promoting sustainable lifestyles and awareness of climate change hazards. Ecofeminism, a philosophical framework, is guiding activism, research, and teacher education by highlighting the interconnectivity of all species with nature. Thus, ecofeminism aims to transform our relationship with the natural world and create better world order.
