Title

GLASS POWDER IN CONCRETE AS PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF CEMENT: REVIEW

Abstract

Cement production is a significant contributor to global CO2 emissions, accounting for approximately 8% and exacerbating climate change. To address this issue, waste materials like glass powder, which already pose disposal challenges, offer a sustainable solution. Glass powder, a by-product of recycled glass, exhibits pozzolanic properties, enhancing concrete strength, durability, and resistance to water and chloride ion penetration. Its use as a partial cement replacement can reduce cement consumption and CO2 emissions. This study investigates replacing up to 30% of cement in M20-grade concrete with glass powder, evaluating workability, compressive strength, and durability through non-destructive testing. Additionally, it addresses long-term effects, water-cement ratios, and creep behavior. By incorporating recyclable glass powder, this research promotes eco-friendly construction practices, reduces reliance on cement, and encourages sustainable waste utilization in concrete production
