Title

PERCEPTION OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS REGARDING EFFECTIVENESS OF CHEST PHYSIOTHERAPY IN ICU AND OTHER PATIENTS

Abstract

Chest physiotherapy (CPT) plays a critical role in managing respiratory conditions, particularly in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). This study explores physiotherapists' perceptions of CPT effectiveness across diverse clinical settings. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional design, data was collected from practicing physiotherapists via an online survey, encompassing 55 respondents from varied healthcare environments. The findings highlight a strong belief in CPT's efficacy, especially for ICU patients, where it aids in clearing airway secretions, improving respiratory function, and reducing complications such as pneumonia. However, differences in perception emerged between ICU and non-ICU practitioners, influenced by experience, clinical exposure, and patient conditions. Challenges such as resource limitations and lack of interdisciplinary collaboration were noted, underscoring the need for better training, evidence-based practices, and system support. This study provides valuable insights into current practices, highlights areas for improvement, and emphasizes the importance of integrating updated protocols for enhanced patient outcomes.
