Title

A COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF VIRECHANA FOLLOWED BY DADRUVIDRVANA MALAHAR AND EDAGAJADI LEPA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DADRU KUSTA VIS-À-VIS TINEA INFECTION

Abstract

Dadru Kusta is one of the most common Twak Vikara affecting all the ages of the population and still stands as a challenge to all medical faculties. Dadru Kusta mentioned in classical textbooks is having the clinical features Kandu, Raga, Pidika, Mandal, Utsanna1. The Dosha involved in the Dadru Kusta are Pittakapha Pradhana three Dosha’s2. On keen observation on symptoms of Dadru Kusta, it closely resembles to the features of Tinea Infection. The clinical features of Tinea infection consist of Red, Scaly, Erythematous itching Lesion, which are annular with well-defined edge and central clear. Tinea infection is contagious in nature, a single affected person is enough to spread Tinea to entire family. Tinea fungus causes the discoloration by invading the superficial skin of affected site by keratinizing it leading to all above mentioned clinical features. Fungal infection is causing substantial health problem having a prevalence rate of 20-25% at the Global level. Owing to this haphazard use of medicines and associated adverse effects make it more burden worldwide. As such there is no exact line of management that is mentioned exclusively Dadru Kusta. The Samanya Chikitsa Sutra of Kusta can be employed here. According to which in PittaKapha Pradhana Kusta, Virechana will be the streamline protocol for treatment as per Samprapti Vighatana to do Dosha Nirhana3. As Twak undergoes pathologically morphological changes local treatment is necessary in the form of Bahirparimarjana Chikitsa for which Malahara and Lepa can be used for Sesha Dosha Nirhanartha4. Hence Virechana followed by Bahirparimarjana Chikitsa will be the possible treatment in the management of Dadru Kusta to attain Vyadhi Apunarbhavatva5. The present study focuses on management of Dadru Kusta.
