Title

A clinical approach to ardita (bell’ palsy) through Ayurveda: A single case study

Abstract

Aggravated vata affects the face and leads to impaired function of the facial muscles. The term Ardita denotes Bell’s palsy and is classified as one of the eighty nanatmaja vyadhis. It is a common neurological disorder in which the seventh cranial nerve is affected. A 23-year-old male patient reported to the outpatient department of Kaychikitsa in our hospital.with complaints of weakness on the left side of the face for the past 2 days. Associated symptoms included incomplete closure of the left eye, slurred speech, and deviation of the mouth to the left side while speaking, and lacrimation from the left eye. Based on the patient’s history and examination, the diagnosis of Ardita was made. The patient was treated with Shodhan Chikitsa, which included Shirodhara with Ashwagandha Bala Taila for 7 days, Sarvanga Abhyanga and Bashpa Sweda with Ksheerabala Taila for 7 days, and Nasya with Neurone (4 drops/day) for 7 days. There was significant improvement in the presenting complaints, and no side effects were observed during or after the treatment.
