Patients undergoing haemodialysis are at increased risk of contracting HCV infection if strict infection control measures are not performed in the dialysis facility. In this study, the utility of ICT and ELISA in the identification of HCV in haemodialysis patients was examined. A total of 160 blood samples from chronic renal disease patients undergoing haemodialysis were collected. All sera were evaluated for the existence of antibodies to HCV proteins using fast ICT and ELISA. The current study found that ELISA is more effective at detecting HCV antibodies. An ideal quick test is beneficial in time-saving situations such as dialysis. As a result, we conclude that HCV screening should better be performed with a rabid test followed by ELISA and PCR.
