This paper provides a sustainable development of the railway network and its impact on the built-up area and vice versa- using the case studies for the Indian cities and its regions. It is both qualitative and quantitative. Research shows that early day’s stations followed existing urbanization patterns. But as the time passes newly built stations are in the undeveloped area and less likely to be located within the established built-up area, which already services for existing stations. Methodologies for the urban development gains originating from rail infrastructure by selecting case studies in India.
