Financial literacy is critical for the empowerment of farmers in India, where the agricultural sector remains largely informal and underserved by traditional financial institutions. Business Correspondents (BCs), acting as intermediaries between banks and rural communities, play a vital role in extending financial services and literacy to marginalized farmers. However, the effectiveness of BCs is often hindered by numerous challenges. This conceptual paper explores the key obstacles faced by BCs in enhancing financial literacy among Indian farmers and proposes policy and practical interventions to mitigate these challenges. Through a review of literature and field reports, this paper aims to build a conceptual framework that reflects the systemic, socio-economic, and operational barriers to financial inclusion via BCs.
