Title

EFFICACY OF HARIDRADI LEHA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF TAMAKA SHWASA WITH RESPECT TO BRONCHIAL ASTHMA- AN OPEN LABELLED RANDOMISED CONTROLLED CLINICAL TRIAL

Abstract

At present, many chronic recurrent airway disorders are increasingly seen all over the global population. One of such respiratory disorder is bronchial asthma described as Tamaka Shwasa in Ayurveda. Despite the rising incidence of bronchial asthma and the lack of satisfactory treatments, contemporary management primarily involves bronchodilators and corticosteroids, which have significant side effects and lead to drug dependency. In contrast, Ayurveda offers effective formulations for Tamaka Shwasa, enhancing patient quality of life while reducing recurrence, improving immunity, and avoiding side effects. Therefore, it is necessary to find an effective medicine in Ayurveda which can give relief to great extent with minimal side effects. This study was an open labelled randomised controlled clinical trial with sample size 40 patients (20 in each group) for duration of 6 weeks. The intervention for Group A was Haridradi leha, whereas for Group B was Vasa avaleha. Group A( Haridradi Leha) and Group B (Vasa Avaleha) both have shown Highly significant results in subjective and objective parameters in enrolled patients. Although the overall improvement in both subjective and objective parameters was highly significant in both groups, clinically percentage wise improvement was more in Group A (Haridradi Leha).
