Title

ADSORPTION STUDIES ON REMOVAL OF REACTIVE RED – 223 DYE ON LOW COST ACTIVATED NANOCARBON (PONGAMIA PINNATA LEAVES)

Abstract

Present study deals with the removal of reactive red dye - 223 from aqueous solution by using activated nanocarbon of natural leaves like Pongamia Pinnata leaves which is highly efficient, eco-friendly and locally available adsorbents. A series of experiments were conducted in a batch system to evaluate the effect of system variables. The effect of contact time, pH and the initial concentration of dye solution were considered. The results show that the contact time 60 minutes for all adsorbent are sufficient to fit the equilibrium. The optimal adsorption pH for the adsorption of dye solution is 7.07 for PPNC adsorbent. Two isotherms models amongst which are Langmuir and Freundlich have been applied to the experimental data. The value of separation factor RL was found to be near to 1.0 for PPNC suggesting the isotherm to be favorable at the on concentration studied. The Langmuir model best described the adsorption of reactive red dye - 223 in aqueous solution by the selected adsorbent.
