Title

Quantitative Analysis of Automated Vulnerability Scanning Tools: Evaluating Performance, Accuracy, and Efficiency

Abstract

Automated vulnerability scanning tools are important for discovering security weakness present in systems and applications. This paper focuses on a quantitative evaluation of the performance, accuracy, and efficiency of various popular automated vulnerability scanners. We look into performance measures like scanning speed and resource utilization (CPU, memory, disk I/O). The accuracy of detection is evaluated against standard vulnerability datasets by calculating the true positive rates (TPR) and false positive rates (FPR). A comparative analysis pits these tools against each other: benchmark assessment against some commonly accepted standards. Finally, a viability evaluation is performed in simulated real-world situations by consideration of network complexity and application size. The results can provide a guide for security professionals in their choice of the most suitablevulnerability scanning tool for their respective demands and environments.
