Title

Biosorption of Methylene Blue ONTO Treated and Untreated Carbon

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to enhance the adsorption of methylene blue using the inexpensive abundantly available waste ground nut shell carbon. Sodium hydroxide solution is used for chemical activation. Batch adsorption studies were carried out. Effect of contact time, adsorbent dosage, effect of concentration, effect of temperature were carried out. Results of Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption Isotherms were determined. Base treated carbon showed enhanced adsorption at a given time and the dosage. Thermodynamic parameters such as H0, G0 and S0 were calculated. The adsorbents were characterized using IR and SEM and EDAX. Studies showed the distinct nature of adsorbents and enhanced adsorption of BTGSC .
