Title

Comparing Muscle Energy Technique and Passive Stretching for Pain and Range of Motion in Spastic Hemiparesis: A Comparative Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Spastic hemiparesis is commonly observed after neurological events such as strokes and cerebral palsy, leading to muscle stiffness, reduced range of motion (ROM), and chronic pain. Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and Passive Stretching are two common rehabilitation interventions that aim to alleviate spasticity, improve ROM, and reduce pain. However, their comparative effectiveness in treating spastic hemiparesis has not been thoroughly investigated. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Muscle Energy Technique and Passive Stretching on pain intensity and range of motion in individuals with spastic hemiparesis. Result: The results revealed significant improvements in both ROM and pain reduction in the MET group compared to the Passive Stretching group. MET showed superior effectiveness in reducing spasticity and improving ROM, with a noticeable decrease in pain scores on the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS). Conclusion: The study compares Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and passive stretching for spastic hemiparesis, finding both effective in reducing discomfort and improving range of motion. Future research should include extended follow-up periods and a control group for better understanding.
