Title

"Exploring Domestic Violence Against Women: A Comparative Study of Rural and Urban Areas in Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh"

Abstract

Abstract Domestic violence is a pervasive issue with significant consequences on women’s physical, psychological, and economic well-being. This research explores the impact of domestic violence on 385 married women in YSR Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh, India. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select 131 urban and 254 rural respondents. Primary data were gathered through self-structured interviews, supplemented by secondary data from official reports and relevant academic literature. The study employed statistical methods such as percentage distribution, Spearman’s correlation, and chi-square analysis. Results show that domestic violence is more prevalent among rural women, particularly those aged 26–35 years. Furthermore, significant rural-urban disparities were found in the types of abuse experienced, educational attainment, and employment status. While urban women reported higher levels of physical, psychological, verbal, and financial violence, rural women demonstrated greater awareness of the Domestic Violence Act of 2005. The study highlights the need for targeted interventions focused on addressing sociocultural norms, promoting economic empowerment, and increasing educational opportunities to reduce domestic violence and support survivors.
