Abstract: Agnipurana is one of the 18 major Puranas. Puranas, in general, contain traditional information on various grounds. If they are analysed on scientific basis, they help reveal useful data for welfare of mankind. The present author investigated the Sanskrit verses containing Sanskrit plant names. These names are equated with the recent (Latin) botanical names and assigned to their respective families. They are analysed for exotic status using relevant taxonomic literature. A total of 76 exotic plant species have been revealed belonging to 73 genera and 44 families. They are further analysed for their habital categories, besides their status regarding wildness or cultivated. The data so accrued is interpreted in the perspective of plant invasion in ancient Indian landmass. The information so obtained will be useful while extending measures for biodiversity management and conservation in India.
