Title

Photo Stress & Finite Element Analysis of Slip Yoke of Commercial Vehicle Ashok Leyland Dost

Abstract

The slip yoke is a critical component in the automobile transmission system, responsible for transferring torque between the drive shaft and the transmission assembly. However, it is commonly subjected to high operational stresses and dynamic loading, which often leads to frequent failures, including fractures and deformations. These failures can result in costly repairs, vehicle downtime, and even safety hazards, making the investigation of the underlying causes essential. The goal of this study is to determine the primary factors contributing to the failure of the slip yoke and recommend improvements to avoid such failures in future designs. To achieve this, the study employs two complementary methods: Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ANSYS software and photo stress analysis using a physical prototype. By using FEA, we can simulate the stress distribution and deformation behavior of the slip yoke under operational conditions. On the other hand, photo stress analysis provides an experimental validation of these results through real-time stress measurements on a physical prototype. The comparison between these two methods aims to identify any discrepancies or errors between the numerical predictions and experimental observations, enhancing the understanding of failure modes in the slip yoke.
