Title

Dynamic Behavior Assessment of Box Girder Bridges using Finite Element Method

Abstract

This study investigates the vibrational characteristics of a box girder bridge structure using ANSYS simulation software to conduct a comprehensive modal analysis. Understanding the dynamic behavior of bridge structures is critical to ensuring structural safety and longevity, particularly under the influence of various natural and vehicular loads. The analysis focused on identifying natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes, revealing distinct deformation patterns at each frequency. Lower-frequency modes exhibited large-scale deformations concentrated at the midspan, while higher-frequency modes showed more complex, localized oscillations. These findings indicate areas within the structure that may experience high stress concentrations, highlighting potential zones susceptible to fatigue over time. By pinpointing critical deformation regions, this study provides insights into necessary structural reinforcements to mitigate fatigue and extend the bridge’s service life. The results underscore the importance of incorporating vibrational analysis in the design and maintenance of box girder bridges, guiding engineers to enhance structural resilience. This research contributes to the field by offering a framework for dynamic analysis in bridge design, aiming to improve the durability and safety of bridge infrastructures.
