User Access Review (UAR) is an organization process to review users' accesses/permissions and take the corrective action to ensure that they are appropriate. User Access Review is a key process of security program to meet the organizations' compliance requirements but most of the time, these processes are not effective enough. User Access Review process not only reduces the security risk also saves money by releasing the costly licenses. Often, reviewers approves/certifies all the users’ accesses without knowing the impact of their actions. Purpose of this paper is to highlight some of the problems related to User Access Review processes and solutions to those problems. Importance of UAR is not just to meet the regulatory requirements but to reduce access related attacks and keeping organization secure. This paper provides insights into optimizing UAR as a key security control, ensuring its effectiveness in safeguarding systems and data.
