Title

Psychological Well-being among Employees of Indian Public and Private Sector Industry

Abstract

Psychological well-being (PWB) is regarded as one of the significant factor in the overall employees’ well-being and plays key role in enhancing their physical and mental health. The psychological well-being refers to how employees perceive their life, life experiences and job satisfaction. PWB carries lot of weightages, as it impacts overall life happiness and contentment. It has become one of the crucial and a significant component for a productive workplace. The essential elements of PWB include emotions (positive and negative), satisfying relationships, and a sense of meaning in life. In the recent years it has been noticed that there is increase in the number of employees’ mental health issues following the pandemic. The present study aims to investigate the psychological well-being of public sector and private sector employees and its influence on job satisfaction. The quantitative method of analysis was used in the present study. A total of 50 employees were randomly selected (25 employees from public sector and 25 employees from private sector). Employee well-being scale and Job satisfaction scales were administered. Findings suggest that there is significant difference in psychological well-being of employees working in public sector and private sector. Significant difference was also found between the job satisfaction of employees working in public sector and private sector. Positive correlation was found between job satisfaction and various dimensions of psychological well-being. The results suggest that nurturing employees’ PWB may be valuable for the public and private sector industry. The present research contributes in extending the existing literature on employees’ psychological well-being of private and public sector employees.
