The heroine of the Quit India movement of 1942 was undoubtedly Aruna Asaf Ali. In 1928, a great change in her life came when she went to spend a part of her summer vacation at Allahabad, it was here that she met her future husband Asaf Ali and got married under stir opposition. On 12th March 1930 Mahatma Gandhiji started the historic anti-salt tax campaign, Asaf Ali who had taken an active part in the Satyagraha was arrested and drifted the Aruna to take active part in India’s Struggle for independence. she is an earnest revolutionary got imprisoned thrice, first in 1930 she got imprisoned for one year for sedition, next in 1932 she again courted arrest in Satyagraha Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi and was imprisoned for six months. She was again sent to prison for one year in 1941 in linking with the individual Civil Disobedience Movement of the Mahatma Gandhi. On 9 August 1942, soon after the arrest of the members of the Congress Working Committee of which her husband was one, she presided over the National Flag hoisting ceremony at the Gowalia Tank Maidan, the site of the A.I.C.C meeting and the British declared her an absconder in 1942.
