Title

Knowledge and Attitude regarding unhealthy fast foods among the Nursing students

Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: Food is a substance, usually composed of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and water that can be eaten or drunk by an animal or human for nutrition or pleasure. Fast food is often nutritionally poor and high in calories. Evidence demonstrates that overeating commercial fast food products can negatively impact health in both the short- and long-term. Material and method: A quantitative research approach using descriptive survey research study was used. A total of 60 nursing students from Pratiksha School of Nursing were selected as a sample by using Non – Probability Convenient sampling technique. Structured knowledge questionnaire on unhealthy fast food and structured likert scale on attitude regarding unhealthy fast food were used as tools for data collection. Results: The mean of knowledge regarding unhealthy fast food was 9.55 and the mean of attitude regarding unhealthy fast food was 43.85. Among the 60 sample, 10 (16.67%) of them are having good knowledge, 34 (56.66%) are having average knowledge and 16 (26.67%) are having poor knowledge regarding unhealthy fast food. With regards to attitude, 7 (11.67%) of them are having negative attitude, 33 (55%) are having neutral attitude and 20 (33.33%) are having positive attitude regarding unhealthy fast food. There is no significant relationship (r = 0.034) between knowledge and attitude regarding unhealthy fast food. Conclusion: The present study was undertaken to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding unhealthy fast food among nursing students and to assess the relationship between knowledge and attitude regarding unhealthy fast food among nursing students. After finding and analysis it is concluded that the majority of nursing students had average knowledge and neutral attitude regarding unhealthy fast food.
