Abstract

Factors affecting the reading comprehension level of Grade 9 students of San Pascual North District, Division of Masbate for the school year 2023 – 2024 was determined using descriptive – correlational methods of research. Findings revealed that the students’ level of reading comprehension in literal, critical, and inferential was interpreted as did not meet expectations as reflected in the result of the proficiency level. In addition, the factors affecting students’ reading comprehension in terms of study habits, health, socio-economic, parents’ role, alphabetic principle, and phonemic awareness was high. Furthermore, there was significant relationship between study habits and inferential and critical reading comprehension levels. However, other factors were not significantly related with reading comprehension level. Furthermore, the factors identified had a very weak influence on the reading comprehension level of the Grade 9 students. Finally, to improve the structured intervention program such as Project ARMAS can effectively improve the reading comprehension level of Grade 9 students.
