Title

Technology Utilization in Teaching Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao: Its Effects on the Academic Performance of Grade 10 Students

Abstract

This study determined the effect of using technology on the academic performance of the Grade 10 students in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao in San Pascual National High School, San Pascual District, Division of Masbate Province, School Year 2023 – 2024. The study employed descriptive-comparative-correlational research method. There were thirty-six (36) Grade 10 students and four teachers handling ESP who were the respondents of the study. A teacher-made test and survey questionnaire were the research instruments used in gathering data. To statistically analyze the data, the following tools were used: mean, weighted mean, proficiency level, standard deviation, T-test for Dependent Samples, Pearson Product – Moment Correlation of Coefficient, Coefficient of Determination, and Cohen’s D. The following findings were derived from the study: (1) the academic performance level of the students in ESP 10 was 76.78; (2) the level of technology utilization as perceived by the students had an average weighted mean of 4.20, while as perceived by the teachers was 4.45; (3) the level of academic performance of students in ESP after the utilization of technology had a performance level of 77.58; (4) for the significant difference, students’ perception and academic performance had a t-statistic value of -0.91 and a p-value of 0.192, while teachers’ perception and academic performance had a t-statistic value of -0.84 and a p-value of 0.212; (5) the significant relationship between the academic performance of the students in pre test and post test had an r-value of 0.63, and a p-value of 0.000; (6) the extent of influence of students’ perception and academic performance had an r-value of -0.60 and an r²-value of 36%, while teachers’ perception and the academic performance had an r-value of -0.85 and an r²-value of 72%; (7) the effectiveness of technology utilization, students’ performance had Cohen’s d result of 0.58, while teachers’ perception showed Cohen’s d result showed 0.53; and (8) policy recommendation was crafted to enhance the academic performance of the students.
