Title

Theoretical Foundations of Vedic Mathematics and Its Educational Implications

Abstract

Mathematics plays a crucial role in developing logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, yet traditional teaching methods often lead to challenges such as math anxiety and disengagement among students. Vedic Mathematics, an ancient system rooted in Indian scriptures, offers alternative problem-solving techniques that simplify complex arithmetic operations and enhance computational thinking. This conceptual paper explores the impact of a structured learning package based on Vedic Mathematics on students' ability to think critically, solve problems efficiently, and improve mathematical fluency. The paper examines the theoretical foundations of Vedic Mathematics in relation to cognitive learning theories such as Cognitive Load Theory, Constructivist Learning Theory, Dual Coding Theory, and Metacognition. Additionally, a review of previous studies highlights the effectiveness of Vedic Mathematics in improving computational speed, numerical ability, and student engagement. The study identifies gaps in existing literature, including limited empirical research on structured learning packages and their integration into modern curricula. The proposed learning package comprises conceptual explanations of Vedic sutras, step-by-step problem-solving techniques, interactive worksheets, and digital resources. The paper outlines the research objectives, which focus on evaluating the effectiveness of the learning package through an experimental study comparing Vedic Mathematics with conventional teaching methods. The study aims to assess its impact on students’ computational efficiency, problem-solving ability, and engagement levels. Pedagogical implications include the development of computational thinking, enhanced problem-solving skills, reduction of cognitive load, and increased motivation among students. Furthermore, the paper discusses strategies for integrating Vedic Mathematics into mainstream education and addresses potential challenges such as teacher preparedness and curriculum adaptation. The findings contribute to the field of mathematics education by advocating for alternative pedagogical approaches that foster mathematical proficiency and confidence among students.
