Title

IOT BASED RFID-DRIVEN SMART TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLE PRIORITY

Abstract

The increasing demand for faster emergency response times has highlighted the need for intelligent traffic management systems. This project focuses on developing an RFID-based emergency vehicle priority system using an IoT-enabled ESP32 microcontroller. The system is designed to detect the presence of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and police cars at traffic intersections and dynamically override traffic signals to grant them priority passage. Emergency vehicles are equipped with RFID tags, while RFID readers installed near traffic signals identify these vehicles and communicate with the ESP32 controller. Upon detection, the controller temporarily overrides the standard signal cycle and switches the traffic light to green for the emergency vehicle's direction, ensuring minimal delay and improved response times. The system also ensures seamless integration with existing traffic infrastructure and returns to normal operation after the vehicle passes. This project offers a low-cost, scalable, and reliable solution to enhance road safety and reduce critical response times in emergency situations.
