Title

“A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VIDEO-ASSISTED TEACHING PROGRAMME ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING GENITAL TUBERCULOSIS AMONG WOMEN IN SELECTED COMMUNITY AREAS OF AHMEDABAD DISTRICT.”

Abstract

INTRODUCTION Genital tuberculosis (GTB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and typically occurs as a secondary infection from pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). The infection spreads mainly through the hematogenous route. Reactivation of dormant tuberculous bacilli often triggers the symptoms. In developing countries, female genital tuberculosis (FGTB) is a major cause of tubal blockage and infertility. GTB is a chronic disease of the reproductive organs and is a form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB). It is associated with infertility and can be transmitted through sexual contact without a barrier method. Historically, the disease was referred to as "consumption" due to its destructive nature. (Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2016). METHODS AND MATERIALS:-The study included 100 women, selected through non-probability purposive sampling techniques.A self-structured knowledge questionnaire was used .The demographic data showed the following:Age, Marital status,Educationstatus,Occupation,Family income,Living area,Living condition,Previous knowledge of genital tuberculosis had no prior knowledge. In the experimental group, the pre-test scores showed that 44% (22 women) had inadequate knowledge, while 56% (28 women) had moderate knowledge regarding FGTB. After the intervention, the post-test results revealed that 20% (10 women) had moderate knowledge, and 80% (40 women) had adequate knowledge. In the control group, 54% (27 women) had inadequate knowledge, and 46% (23 women) had moderate knowledge in the pre-test. The post-test revealed that 52% (26 women) still had inadequate knowledge, and 48% (24 women) had moderate knowledge. For the experimental group, the pre-test mean knowledge score was 8.92 (SD = 1.95), while the post-test mean score was 18.82 (SD = 1.49). The calculated paired ‘t’ value was 31.4, which was statistically significant at p<0.05 level (2.0096), with 49 degrees of freedom.CONCLUSION:The main conclusion from this present study is that there was significant improved knowledge regarding Genital tuberculosis among women after the Video assisted teaching programme. The provision of video assisted teaching programme was effective in improvingthe knowledge of the women.
