Photographs and videos have traditionally been seen as pure representations of reality, free from the distortions of human bias, unlike drawings, paintings and writings. However, with the advancement of Artificial Intelligence and Deepfake technology, even images, videos and human likenesses are being easily manipulated and distorting the truth, particularly in the context of current events. Though deepfake technology is still emerging, its potential to revolutionize news, politics, a celebrity’s reputation and any media involving images and videos is significant. This growing challenge is compounded by the difficulty both humans and detection software face in identifying AI-generated or altered images. As a result, in fields such as journalism, politics, and national security, AI-manipulated images and videos pose a serious threat to the integrity of truthful information and contribute to the further erosion of trust in the Legal institutions. Through this research I hope to better understand the concept of deepfake, the threats it poses on a Celebrity’s Image rights with the study of various cases and how the Image rights are being protected from the ever-growing AI in India along with a comparative study of other Countries.
