Title

Assessment of Carbon Sequestration Potential: A Case Study of Heartfulness Campus, Yerla, Nagpur

Abstract

Abstract: This research investigates the carbon sequestration potential of the Heartfulness Campus, Yerla, Nagpur, integrating sensor-based real-time monitoring with traditional estimation methods. By employing field measurements, remote sensing, laboratory analysis, and IoT-based environmental sensors, the study quantifies the carbon stored in different pools: above-ground biomass, below-ground biomass, soil organic carbon, and litter. Soil carbon was analyzed through the Walkley-Black method, and real-time CO2 fluctuations were recorded via ESP32-based CO2 sensors. Results indicate the campus stores approximately 3,200 metric tons of carbon, with soil organic carbon contributing 65%. The inclusion of sensors has enabled high-accuracy data collection, improving estimations and allowing dynamic monitoring of sequestration trends. The study further explores the role of soil properties, tree species diversity, and environmental factors in influencing sequestration rates, providing a framework for technology-enhanced carbon monitoring in institutional landscapes.
