Title

Proportion Of Human Papilloma Virus Among The Cancer Cervix Patients In A Tertiary Care Center- A Record Based Observational Study

Abstract

Cancer cervix is a worldwide problem. High risk Human Papilloma Virus infection is one of the most important risk factor for cervical cancer. Present study aims to know the high risk Human Papilloma Virus genotypes present in the cancer cervix of Tripura, a State in North East India so that proper prevention strategies can be prepared. This retrospective, record based pilot observational study was conducted on cervical cancer patients attended the lone Tertiary Cancer Center (ABVRCC) of the State to know the proportion of cancer cervix patients show the presence of high risk Human Papilloma Virus infection and if present what are the genotypes of the virus. The study was conducted on the records from 01.07.2022 to 30.06.2024. Total number of evaluable sample was 45 and 80% of the sample showed presence of high risk Human Papilloma Virus. Apart from genotype 16 (64%) and genotype 18 (19%), other high risk Human Papilloma Virus found were 31, 33, 35, 45, 51, 53 & 68 one each. In two samples change of virus were seen and also in two samples double high risk genotype viruses were seen. Though, no uniform follow up schedule was detected, it was found that two patients showed negative regarding high risk virus by six months. Hence, it is concluded in the study that high risk Human Papilloma Virus infection in very common in the sample examined and apart from genotype 16 & 18 other high risk Human Papilloma Viruses are also present in the State. The issue of negativity of the high risk genotype of viruses during follow up needs for stringent follow up schedule, as, in this study, as per small records available, only two patients showed virus negativity by six months. It is recommended, further studies with large sample and with some other designs may be conducted.
