Title

OPTIMIZATION OF BEST POSITION OF LUMINARY FOR AVOIDANCE OF DISCOMFORT GLARE

Abstract

Artificial lighting of different type of sources create varied psychological perceptions within a person. Visual discomfort is created for occupants when surplus and annoying light source is installed at wrong position within a room. Glare is one of the relevant parameters to express such visual discomfort. Glare is visual sensation caused by excessive and uncontrolled brightness in the field of view. Unified Glare Rating (UGR) is widely accepted quantification index used for describing the level of discomfort glare, sensed at the indoor. This paper presents study of optimizing the best artificial light source among the three different wattages LED based luminaries at a specific workspace, for avoidance of glare. The author reports the effect of variation in the position and angle of luminaries on discomfort and luminous intensity distribution in the workplan with the help of a lighting simulation software. The results generated by mathematical modelling guide to detects the ideal position and the intensity of luminary for creating visual comfort for the occupants.
