Title

Analysis of Cutting Parameters for Tool and Chip Interface Temperature in Machining of Mild Steel using Taguchi Method.

Abstract

In Metal cutting chip tool interface temperature is one of the critical factor which influence tool life, surface finish and quality of the work piece. The most influencing parameters for this interface temperature are cutting speed, feed and depth of cut. The Chip tool interface temperature increase with the increase of these parameters as well as with the increase in hardness and strength of product. The significant improvement in the tool life and output quality of the product may be obtained by optimizing these controllable cutting parameters. In this paper Optimization is carried out for chip tool interface temperature while machining mild steel work piece with high speed steel tool on HMT lathe machine. Taguchi’s method is used to find out the optimal cutting parameters for the interface temperature. This method is suitable for optimization of control cutting parameters with the minimum number of experiment. Analysis of variance is used to determine the percentage contribution of various cutting parameter on the interface temperature. From Taguchi method and ANOVA, results indicate that the cutting speed is most significant parameter which influences the interface temperature.
