Title

Mind Sync Smart Glasses: AI-Driven Memory Enhancement

Abstract

This research investigates the synergy between wearable artificial intelligence and human memory augmentation. Drawing inspiration from Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) (Lewis et al., n.d.) and multilingual text embeddings (Wang et al., 2024), we propose an AI-enabled eyewear system to enhance memory recall. Utilizing an ESP32-CAM, the system captures a continuous visual timeline of daily events, enabling hands-free operation. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) extracts textual information from these images, which is subsequently indexed within a vector database. This indexing facilitates efficient retrieval, mirroring techniques used in knowledge-intensive Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks (Asai et al., 2021). A microservices architecture ensures modularity and scalability, with distinct services for data retrieval and facial identification. Users interact with the system via conversational prompts, triggering a Large Language Model (LLM) to synthesize relevant information from the retrieved data. This process yields concise summaries of past events. The integrated system leverages computer vision, NLP, and machine learning, mirroring approaches found in image caption generation (Panicker et al., 2021) and knowledge-enhanced dialogue systems (Asai et al., 2021). By addressing challenges in knowledge retrieval and generation, the system aims to mitigate limitations such as model hallucinations and reliance on spurious cues (Asai et al., 2021). Future development will focus on integrating GPS data, object detection, and enhanced real-time processing to further optimize user experience and memory augmentation capabilities.
